Prescriptions

The prescriptions line is closed until further notice. If you have a query about a prescription, please complete an enquiry form on our website. We do not take requests for prescriptions over the phone, instead please fill in a repeat prescription request on this website.

If you are on long-standing or continuous medication, and if the doctor has agreed, you may obtain repeat prescriptions. This decision, and the number of repeats belongs solely to the doctor concerned and cannot be overruled by other staff. We require at least 48 hours notice for your prescriptions in writing. When you need a repeat prescription:

  • Request online (If you need to register for our online services, please complete our online form).
  • You may also bring your request to the practice and post it in the prescription box in the entrance foyer.

Medication review

From time to time you will be asked for a review of your treatment. The practice may request for you to make an appointment to see the pharmacist or doctor for this review.

Electronic Prescription Service

We also now offer the Electronic Prescription Service. Please speak to your nominated pharmacy who can sign you up for this service, or complete our registration form.

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS service. It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the place you choose to get your medicines or appliances from.

What does this mean for you?

You will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, your GP will send it electronically to the place you choose, saving you time.

Your prescriptions can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work, or shop.

You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as there will be time for your repeat prescriptions to be ready before you arrive.

Is this service right for you?

Yes, if you:

  • Don’t want to go to your GP practice every time to collect your prescription.
  • Collect your medicines from the same place most of the time.
  • Currently use a prescription collection service.

It may not be if you:

  • Don’t get prescriptions very often.
  • Pick up your medicines from different places.

How can you use EPS?

Please ask our reception for further information.

Urgent Prescriptions

If you require a prescription more urgently than 48 hours, please request online or speak to reception who will do their best to accommodate you.

Please note to ensure patient safety, we do NOT accept prescription requests over the telephone.

Prescription Fees

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount, which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS Charges

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.

Collection of paper prescriptions

You can now only collect your paper repeat prescriptions from Millwood Surgery, Mill Lane, Bradwell.
